The E4D Foundation

The Education for Development (E4D) Foundation, a non-profit and non-governmental organisation founded by Dr Albert Antwi-Boasiako, registered by the Registrar-General’s Department of the Republic of Ghana under the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992) and licensed by the Department of Social Welfare, to operate as a non-governmental organisation, in the Achiase District, Eastern Region. The establishment of the E4D Foundation was necessitated by its Founder who, even though came from the same underserved community, has been able to achieve the highest form of education, joining millions of Ghanaians who are impacting on their families, communities, the country and the world at large. There are several millions of people who need the support and the opportunity through education to also change their personal circumstances and contribute to the development of their families and communities.

The establishment of the E4D Foundation is premised on what Plato, an Ancient Greek Philosopher rightly indicated in The Republic “the direction in which education starts a man will determine his future in life”. The Foundation has been established purposely to support this journey of the underprivileged, to change their narratives.

The Foundation operates mainly in Akim-Bieni and Anyinam-Kotoku as well as the surrounding communities in the Achiase District of the Eastern Region of Ghana.

The Story Behind the E4D Foundation

Three main factors influenced the birth of the E4D Foundation;

  • The founder of E4D Foundation, Dr. Albert Antwi-Boasiako received his elementary education at both Anyinam-Kotoku and Akim-Bieni, the two communities E4D mainly operates from, receiving distinction in the basic education certificate, a record which has not been matched or surpassed since his completion of basic education, close to 3 decades ago. Thus, the Founder of the E4D Foundation benefited from education in the aforementioned communities.
  • The education and professional achievement of Dr. Antwi-Boasiako was made possible through his ‘privileged access’ to Information and Communications Technology (ICT). Dr Antwi-Boasiako was among the few people who had access to computers and internet connectivity in the 90s, making it possible to access a scholarship programme to travel and further his education abroad. ‘It was through basic access to internet and e-mail services at the time which opened the door for my studies abroad’, Dr Antwi-Boasiako once stated.
  • Albert Yaw Broni Antwi, the father of Dr Albert Antwi-Boasiako, was a known teacher and educationist in the area who promoted education in a number of communities in the Achiase District. He demonstrated his commitment to education of the people in the area in different ways including having to ride a bicycle to commute in at least three different communities to teach on daily basis as there were no available teachers to support the other adjoining communities.

The founding of the E4D Foundation is therefore a forward-thinking initiative to give back to the community and primarily to support education intervention efforts in the aforementioned and adjoining communities, to raise the standard of education for community-based development.
